McKenzie Police Reports

McKenzie Police Department’s Officer Sean Beck indicated he was patrolling when he clocked a Dodge Ram pickup truck speed on Oaklawn Drive. The officer turned around to follow and activated his blue lights as the pickup truck turned onto SR 124W and drove into Weakley County.

Evading arrest, reckless endangerment — Dylan Bates, 20, Highway 436, McKenzie was driving the pickup truck, according to the report. Friday the 13th proved to be unlucky for two men after they fled from authorities, exited the roadway and struck a tree. Both men had to be extricated from the pickup truck and the driver was airlifted to a medical facility. Officer Beck indicated he witnessed the pickup truck driving at speeds of approximately 80-85 miles per hour, passing vehicles on a double solid line. Since it was outside the city limits, Beck slowed the patrol vehicle and turned off the emergency equipment. Beck said he made a curve on State Route 124 and witnessed the vehicle off the roadway and wrecked into a tree. The driver was yelling in pain. Officer Beck advised the dispatcher to send rescue and emergency medical services. McKenzie Fire/Rescue used extrication tools to remove the doors to free the patients. The driver, Bates, was airlifted and the passenger, Stephen Stigall, was driven to the hospital to treat his injuries. Bates is charged with Evading Arrest, Reckless Endangerment and Simple Possession/Casual Exchange.

DUI — Justin R. Edwards, 40, Jones Street, Huntingdon, was charged with DUI-First Offense on January 11 after officers stopped his vehicle after a report of a suspicious driver. Officer Sean Beck said he was alerted of a possible drunk driver coming into McKenzie from U.S. 79 N. He made contact with the driver and made a traffic stop. The officer indicated he could smell alcohol and asked him to submit to field sobriety tests. He reportedly did poorly on the tests and was charged with DUI.

Domestic Assault — Kimberly Sue Sarkozi, 58, Booker Street, McKenzie was charged with Domestic Assault, Aggravated Assault on January 9. Officer Cody Coleman responded to Cherrywood Avenue where two people were walking and were followed by a pickup truck. William Milton said he and his daughter were walking from Relax Inn to the house of a friend of the daughter after a domestic argument at that location. Sarkozi, who is a relationship with Milton, was attempting to get the two to get in the truck with her. She reportedly bumped Milton with the front bumper of the truck. The daughter also claimed pain in her foot. An ambulance was summoned to check on Milton, however, he refused transport. Sarkozi was transported to Carroll County Jail.

Simple Possession, Drug Paraphernalia — Arthur Amos Teas, 63, Spruce Street, McKenzie was charged with Simple Possession and Drug Paraphernalia in relation to a Grand Jury indictment against Teas and Opal Travis. On January 10, multiple officers entered the home and found a small amount of white crystal-like powder, a digital scale, and a composition book with names, dollar amounts, and the number of grams listed – information consistent with drug transactions. A small amount of methamphetamine was also found.

Manufacture Meth, Drug Paraphernalia — Cody James Jarrett, 33, Winston Road, McKenzie was charged with Methamphetamine, Failure to Display Registration, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia after a traffic stop on January 15. According to a report filed by Sergeant Cody Coleman, he stopped Jarrett for a display of registration plate violation. Once Jarrett was stopped, Officer Coleman indicated the smell of marijuana and conducted a search of the vehicle. He reportedly found a glass pipe with the residue of meth, and a small plastic bag of a white crystal substance. Jarrett was transported to Carroll County Jail.

DUI, Disorderly Conduct — Keith Eugene Davis, 54, Oaklawn Drive, McKenzie was charged with Disorderly Conduct and DUI on January 14 after he was disorderly in two restaurants.

Sergeant Cody Coleman responded to Rivals after receiving a call about a disorderly patron. Davis had left there and went to nearby Maria’s, where he was also disorderly and attempted to strike a patron, before fleeing the business and driving away recklessly in his pickup.  Officers went to the Oaklawn Street address and located Davis in his truck at home. Davis reportedly had a strong odor of alcohol and had slurred speech.

Officers interviewed managers at both restaurants, and both told how Davis was disorderly. Both restaurants banned Davis from returning after the incident. Davis was arrested and refused to submit to the blood-alcohol screen.

Elder Abuse, Domestic Assault — Wilfredo Rivera, 54, Kay Street, McKenzie was charged with Elder Abuse, Domestic Assault on January 14. Assistant Chief Trey Boucher filed a report indicating Rivera and his one-year older brother were arguing and Rivera punched his wheelchair-bound brother. Rivera was transported to Carroll County Jail.
