McKenzie honors senior hoopsters

Tuesday night, McKenzie paid homage to its senior basketball players, managers and cheerleaders before its season finale against Milan.

The Rebels and Lady Rebels bid adieu to 12 seniors this year. They are:

Bryson Steele is the 18-year-old son of Brittney Steele and Brian Steele. He is a four-year member of the basketball team where he achieved Mr. Rebel honors. He is a member of DECA and plans to become a realtor.

Zach Aird is the 18-year-old son of Misty and Matt Aird. He is a four-year member of the basketball team and a four-year member of the football team, where he earned all-state honors as a kicker. He was all-region and specialist MVP. He is a member of Beta Club, Young Life, FCA, Science Club and M Club. Aird is headed to North Alabama to play football and seek a degree in business management.

Marquez Taylor is the 17-year-old son of Sabrina Taylor and Sandi and Spiros Roditis. He is a four-year member of the Rebel basketball team where he was region MVP and won the Push-the-Floor Award. He is a four-year member of the football team that won the state title last fall. He was a Mr. Football finalist in 2021 and was voted Most Athletic and Most Likely to Become Famous. He signed with Austin Peay to play football.

Zay Webber is the 18-year-old son of Lameka Webber and Tommy Horton. He is a four-year member of the Rebel basketball team and was a member of the 2022 state-champion football team, where he was most valuable receiver and all region. He plans to attend Bethel and major in sports management.

Madison Gilbert is the 18-year-old daughter of Emily Daily. She is a four-year member of the Lady Rebel basketball team. She is a member of the Beta Club, Maniacs, Yearbook, Library and Young Life. Her plans are to attend college and become a dental hygeinist.

Kylie Reynolds, the 18-year-old daughter of Stephanie McClerkin, is a four-year member of the Lady Rebel basketball team and was a member of the 2022 state championship squad. She earned all-district honors last year. She is a 4.0 student, a member of Beta Club, Science Club and a finalist for Miss Basketball. She is headed to Bethel University to play basketball, where she also will major in chemistry.

Katie Chesser is the 17-year-old daughter of Samantha and Jason Chesser. She is a four-year member of the Lady Rebel basketball team, where she set the school record for charges. She earned all-district honors last year. She is a four-year member of the softball team where she was named defensive player of the year. She was a two-year member of the soccer team where she was twice goalie of the year. She is a member of Beta Club, M-Club, FCA, FTA and Young Life. She plans to play softball for Dyersburg State and major in psychology.

Hannah Dillingham is the 18-year-old daughter of Phillip and Suzanne Dillingham. She is a four-year member of the Lady Rebel basketball team. She also is a four-year member of the Lady Rebel soccer team where she earned all-district honors all four years and was, defensive player of the year and District MVP. She is a member of Beta Club, M-Club and Young Life. Her plans are to attend a four-year university to play soccer and pursue a degree in social work.

Briley Auvenshine is the 17-year-old daughter of Brent and Brandy Auvenshine. She is a four-year member of the Lady Rebel basketball team where she was named to the all-district, all-region and all-state-tournament teams. She is a four-year member of the MHS softball team where she was district MVP. She is a member of the Beta Club. Briley plans to play softball at Bethel and pursue dentistry.

Lady Rebel manager Gracie Henderson is the 17-year-old daughter of Misty and Johnny Henderson. She has served as manager for four years and is a member of Beta Club, Maniacs and Young Life. She plans to attend UTM and major in elementary education.

Taniyah Diggs is the 18-year-old daughter of Tierra Diggs and Brannon Milton and niece of NaQuana Diggs. She is a two-year member of the Rebel cheerleading squad, a three-year member of the Rebel track team and a four-year football manager. She is a member of the Minority Club, FCA, M-Club, Science Club, Spanish Club, Renaissance, Yearbook and Young Life. She was voted Most Spirited. She plans to attend Bethel to be a football manager and major in sports management. She also plans to enlist in the Tennessee National Guard.

Alajah Gilbert is the 17-year-old daughter of LaShonda Williams. She is a four-year member of Rebel cheereleading squad where she has been captain for the past two years. She is a member of the Distinguished Scholar Program, Beta Club, M-Club, FCA, president of the Minority Club and is senior class Sergeant at Arms. Her plans are to attend Austin Peay and seek a career in occupational therapy.
