The Huntingdon Mustang baseball team won its first game of the season and then lost three straight to start the 2023 campaign 1-3. The Mustangs defeated McKenzie 9-1 in Medina to start the season as they scored eight of their runs in the first two innings. Braylen Rich led the way by going 3-5 at the plate and picked up two RBI’s. Ashton Hutcherson was 2-4 and drove in a run, Ethan Ramsey was 2-3 and drove in two, Gray Eubanks was 2-5, Graham Bartholomew, Easton Byars, Brady Warbritton, and Jax Bennett all had a hit in the game. Byars was the winning pitcher by going four innings and allowed six hits and struck out six. Caleb Ezell earned the save by allowing one hit in three innings of work.
The Mustangs played a second game after the win over McKenzie on Monday and lost to South Gibson 1-0. Ramsey was 2-2, Warbritton, Bartholomew and Bennett had a hit apiece. Luke Cooper took the loss on the mound but pitched well, going six innings with five hits and one run.
The Mustangs played Trenton on Tuesday and lost on the road 10-6. Eubanks led the way with a 3-4 night at the plate but was also the losing pitcher. Warbritton, Cooper, Ramsey, and Bennett all had a hit in the loss.
The Mustangs finished the week by playing Obion County at Gibson County High School and lost 6-3 as Obion County scored five times in the second inning. Hutcherson was the leading hitter with a 3-4 effort at the plate and scored twice. Eubanks, Rich, and Bartholomew had a hit in the loss. Rich started on the mound and took the loss.
