Fillies win Sara Beth Whitehead Memorial Tournament

 The Huntingdon Fillies for the second year in a row started with a ton of games during their first week and for the second year in a row, the Fillies claimed the Sara Beth Whitehead tournament title. The Fillies won six games over two days to claim the title after starting 1-1 in their first two games of the season on Monday and Tuesday.

 The Sara Beth Whitehead Memorial tournament that was played in Jackson was named for Sara Beth Whitehead who passed away 17 years ago, was created to bring awareness of Meningococcal Meningitis and organ tissue deaths. The Fillies finished the tournament Saturday night in the cold with a 2-0 win over Lakeway Christian to earn the title. Madison Mann and Josie Stokes both had RBIs in the second inning for the win. Natalie Kreuziger earned the win by pitching five innings with two hits and struck out 12.

 The Fillies started the tournament with a 10-1 win over Fayette Academy. Lia Fuller was 2-3 in the win and Adalyn Allen had a hit and three RBI. Reese Bradley earned the win with 7 K’s in the victory. The Fillies followed that up with a 6-0 win over Munford. Kreuziger was the winning pitcher with five innings of work and 9 K’s. Delaney Byars, Ava Ryan Canovan, and Fuller all had two hits apiece. The Fillies then earned a hard-fought win over Covington with a 6-4 win as Byars had two hits and Kreuziger earned the win.

 The Fillies then defeated JCS 13-0 as Fuller was 3-3 and Lillyann Wortham had two hits and drove in four runs. Karter Moore and Mann had two RBI’s apiece. Kreuziger was the winning pitcher. The Fillies then defeated Camden 2-0 behind Kreuziger who struck out 12 in the win. Josie Sanders drove in a run and Canovan and Wortham had a hit apiece. The Fillies then defeated Lakeway for the title.

 The Fillies started the week with a 10-0 win over Dyer County at home on Monday. Moore was 3-3 in the win, Sanders 2-3 and Allen was 1-2 with two RBI. Kelby Crossno homered for the Fillies in the win and Kreuziger was the winning pitcher with 8 K’s.

 On Tuesday the Fillies lost their only game of the week in nine innings 5-4 at Henry County. The Fillies trailed 4-1 in the seventh put tied the game before losing in extra innings. Kreuziger took the loss but struck out 15. Byars, Fuller, and Mann had two hits apiece. Sanders drove in a run. The Fillies finished the week with a 7-1 record for the season.
