It happens every year

Football always comes to an end and it ends at different times every year. Some years it ends at the regular season final game and sometimes the first round of the playoffs, or the second, or the third and sometimes in the semifinals and if you are fortunate enough it ends at the state championship game. It really doesn’t matter when it ends the feelings always remain the same.

There are two different feelings that come with the last game being played and the sad part about it is that there is only one team that plays its last game on a high note. The team that wins it all is the only team that will leave the playing field with a sense of accomplishment. Every other team should leave the playing field with a sick feeling.

When I say every team that doesn’t win it all should have an empty feeling is because you should never be satisfied that you had a great season even if you didn’t win it all. That is the feeling a lot of Mustang fans are feeling at this moment. One game away from playing for a state title but a lot of the fans are talking about how great a season it was.

Yes, it was a great season as the Mustangs finished at 10-3 in a year that many projected them to be about a five hundred or an average team. I understand that feeling as I am just as proud of this Mustang team as everyone else is, it is also a feeling I don’t like. Yes, it was a fun ride and I enjoyed every minute of it but you are not a Mustang fan if you do not have an empty feeling today.

I have been to the state tile game before as a Mustang team was playing and the total is four and even when the Mustangs finished runner-up three of those times I walked away with an empty feeling. You should never be satisfied with a great or a good season. Winning it all is what you play for and at Huntingdon that goal is achievable here more than it is at most places.

While Huntingdon had a season that the fans and kids can be proud of I hope they are not satisfied with the end result. If you are then I would say go root for an average team. I don’t mean that in a bad way because we play to win it all and it should be a goal to achieve more.
