The months of August, September and October were busy for Carroll County senior citizens as they competed in the Northwest Tennessee Senior Olympics. Sixteen seniors competed in the following events: Corn Hole, Swimming, Shuffleboard singles and doubles, Golf, Track & Field events, Basketball, Table Tennis, Horseshoes and Washers. All that competed came back with medals. Congratulations to all for a job well done!
Winners from Carroll County were: Mary Bullington – gold in corn hole, shuffleboard doubles, horseshoes, basketball free throw, silver in the softball throw, and bronze in the 50 meter run; William Bullington – gold in 50 meter run, shot put, discus, softball throw, horseshoes, basketball 3 point, and basketball hot shot; Joe Hampton and Ben Whitehead took the gold in corn hole doubles; Chris Edlin – gold in the 50 meter run, softball throw, discus and shot put. Chris also competed in the state Senior Olympics this year and won a silver medal in the softball throw and a bronze in the discus.
Carolyn Lutz – gold in horseshoes and washers, bronze in shuffleboard doubles; Tommy Putman – silver in golf; Dottie Walker – gold in basketball free throw, shot put, softball throw, discus, washers and horseshoes, silver in shuffleboard singles, bronze in shuffleboard doubles; Brenda Bell – gold in basketball hot shot, basketball 3 point, horseshoes, washers, softball throw, 50 meter run, 1500 meter run, 1500 meter race walk, shot put, discus and long jump, silver in basketball free throw and shuffleboard singles and bronze in shuffleboard doubles; P.J. Drury – gold in horseshoes and washers, silver in shuffleboard singles and shuffleboard doubles; Mary Humphrey – gold in shuffleboard doubles, silver in shot put, discus and 50 meter run;
Charlotte Horn – bronze in shuffleboard doubles; Glenda Harris – silver in shuffleboard singles; Janice Tippitt – gold in horseshoes and washers and bronze in shuffleboard doubles; Sherry Smith – gold in 50 meter run, 100 meter run, 400 meter run, 800 meter run, 1500 meter run, power walk, 1500 meter race walk, softball throw, long jump, shot put, discus, basketball free throw, basketball hot shot, and basketball 3 point; Susan Sloan gold in shuffleboard doubles and bronze in shuffleboard singles.
