Friday, McKenzie hosted McNairy Central and Camden in a three-way scrimmage and essentially had its way with both teams.

Rebel senior running back Marquez Taylor took the opening play all the way to the end zone, serving notice to the Bobcats and Lions that it was going to be a long day.

McKenzie coach Wade Comer said he was pleased with his team’s effort and physicality.

“Overall,  I thought we did a pretty good job,” the coach said. “I thought the offensive and defensive lines were very physical and I was pleased with their overall effort.”

Comer praised the efforts of Taylor and quarterback Jackson Cassidy.

“They both had an excellent day,” Comer said. “Zay Webber and Ty Anderson caught the ball well. I thought we came out and executed well.”

McKenzie’s conditioning showed up with the milder temperature, too. Camden scored one touchdown against the Rebels while McNairy was held out of the end zone.

“The weather turned out great and our conditioning was good,” the coach said.

The coach said he was glad to see definite positive steps.

“We got after them and our tackling was good,” Comer said. “We have to make a lot of improvement on both sides of the ball, but we’re right where we should be. We just have to keep getting better.”

Comer stressed that it was a good scrimmage for his team, but there is room for improvement. That will be imperative with next week’s scrimmage at Lexington.

“Lexington will be a good test for us. They are pretty good this year,” said the coach.

The scrimmage will begin 5 p.m. Friday at Jim Stowe Field.
