Buried Alive

Ever feel like you’ve been buried alive?

That’s how I’ve been feeling lately.

As sports editor, basketball tournament time is one of the busiest times of the year for me, and this year has been a doozy.

I hate to complain and all, but to those in charge at the TSSAA, your most recent round of redistricting leaves a bit to be desired.

In years past, all the Carroll County high school basketball teams were in the same district and competed in the same district and regional tournaments – and, for many years, both tournaments were hosted by Bethel University. From a sports editor’s perspective, that was very convenient.

But now we’ve got county teams in three different districts going in three different directions as far as postseason tournaments – which is a complete nightmare from a sports editor’s perspective.

But maybe I’m just being selfish.

I’ve also been buried under this special basketball section, which should be inside this week’s edition.

For the past few weeks, I have been harassing every basketball coach, cheerleader sponsor, athletic director, and most of the office staff at every high, middle, and junior high school in the county – trying to get all the team photos, all the names in order and spelled correctly, and all the info and interviews I need for that project.

So, to all those who have been repeatedly pestered by me and have gone through the trouble to help me out, thank you very much for your assistance. I definitely appreciate it.

And a great big thank you to my colleagues and sports contributors Russell Bush and Jim Steele. There’s no way I could do this without your help.

And if I have been a little grumpy with anyone lately, I apologize. I’ve been pretty stressed out.

But enough about me and my troubles.

Good luck to all our local basketball teams as the postseason progresses.

May you go far – or even all the way.
