Willie M. Williamson

1924-2021

Willie Maude Williamson was born in Milan, on April 29, 1924, to the late Lonnie and Isola Clark. She departed this life on December 28 at her home in McLemoresville.

She professed a hope in Christ at an early age and united with Mt. Olive MBC, Atwood. After marriage, she joined Reedy Creek MBC in McLemoresville and later became a charter member of New Reedy Creek MBC, where she served faithfully until her health made attendance impossible. She was in charge of the decorating committee and was a member of the senior choir, usher board, missionary society, and adult Sunday school class.

Willie Maude, often called “Ms. Willie,” attended Barker School in Atwood and later earned her GED. She worked in various departments at the Milan Arsenal and retired as a Milan Arsenal guard. She was united in holy matrimony to Mark L. Williamson. To this union four children were born. Willie Maude filled her life with various civic and family activities. She was the first African American to become employed at the Huntingdon Shirt Factory, was a member of the NAACP, helped many people gain employment at the Milan Arsenal, and was a den mother for the McLemoresville/Atwood Cub Scout troop. She was a representative for Home Interiors and Gifts. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren could always count on her to support their activities. She loved traveling with her family, including special trips with her sisters, and following her favorite singing group, The Gospel Lights. Her favorite hobbies were fishing and working with her flowers.

Willie Maude was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers; Halford, Dubb, B. H., and Bennie, and three Sisters; Lola, Helen, and Captora. She leaves to cherish fond memories (all of TN) two daughters; Martingale “Gale” Carter of Milan and Ernestine “Tina” Williamson of McLemoresville, two sons; McKinley L. Williamson of Huntingdon and Micheal L. Williamson of McLemoresville, two grandchildren; Melinda Carter (Ron) Brooks of Trenton and Coach Jason Carter of Milan, two great-grandchildren; Dominique Davis and Damian Wade, both of Trenton. She also leaves seven nieces, five nephews, four generations of great-nieces, great-nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
