Vincent was born in Boston, Mass., on May 2, 1936, to the late Marguerite (Cotter) Hughes and Christopher Frank Hughes. Vincent was an incredible person who touched the lives of every person he encountered. He and his wife, Joanne, had a love story that lasted 69 years. He grew up in Hyde Park, Mass. with his five siblings. While growing up, he and his brothers and sisters formed a lifelong bond that time and distance could not break. Vincent achieved his dream of being a teacher when he graduated from Bridgewater State University in 1958. He met the love of his life, Joanne, when Vincent’s sister, Peggy, introduced them. They were married on August 19, 1961, at Sacred Heart Church in Roslindale, Mass. They later moved to Brockton, Mass. with their four sons. In June 1975, they moved to Huntingdon, in search of a more relaxed lifestyle than Boston provided. They greatly enjoyed living in a rural atmosphere and made many fast friends. After the move to Tenn., Vincent taught for 20 years at Camden Central High School. He taught advanced mathematics and physics. He is remembered fondly by many of his students for the tremendous positive impact he had on their lives. They also remember his dry wit which was epitomized by the Golden Pig. He was also a dedicated farmer who spent most of his time away from school laboring to make Hughes Farm a success. He greatly enjoyed working with his cattle and operating the tractor and other equipment. He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Huntingdon. Special thanks to Joe and Lois Hampton who frequently came to visit Vincent and Joanne at home as their health declined. These visits were greatly enjoyed by both. He and Joanne took a trip each summer to various locations throughout the United States and Canada. Several years ago, He achieved his goal of visiting each one of the fifty states. He will be greatly missed by all his friends and family each and every day.

In addition to his parents, Vincent was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne Ellen (Sullivan) Hughes; one son, Andrew Hughes; his sisters and brothers, Marguerite (Peggy) Moulin, Nancy Hannan, James Hughes, John (Stanley) Hughes and Christopher Hughes.

He is survived by his four sons, Vincent M. (Michelle) Hughes, Patrick Hughes, Frank (Diane) Hughes, and Peter (Melissa) Hughes; seven grandchildren, Paul, Fred, Lauren, Samantha, Nicole, Caroline, Juliette, and Jack; and many nieces and nephews.
