Storm stops Tigers short 16-6 against Collinwood

Friday night was stormy in more ways than one for the Hollow Rock-Bruceton Central Tigers as they suffered a 16-6 loss in an on-the-road regional bout against Collinwood.

The Tigers really struggled offensively in the first half, only producing one first down in the first two quarters.

Collinwood, however, scored two touchdowns in the first half, both followed by successful two-point conversions, leaving Central down 16-0 at the half.

The Tigers made their one and only touchdown of the game in the third quarter as quarterback Thomas Crews connected with Malik Mathes on a 10-yard scoring pass play. The PAT attempt failed, but Central had closed some of the gap 16-6.

The Tigers’ hopes for a comeback were cut short when officials called the game due to bad weather with around two minutes left on the clock in the fourth quarter.

Central’s defense did deliver two turnovers on pass interceptions – one by Dylan Wortham in the first quarter and one by Austin Craig in the fourth.

With the loss, the Tigers now stand at 3-4 overall and 2-3 in regional competition.

The Tigers are scheduled to conclude their regular season Friday night with a region contest against McEwen at McEwen. Game time is 7 p.m.
