Ruel D. Gibson

Ruel David Gibson, 73, of Huntingdon, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 13, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital in Jackson. Private family funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 16, in the chapel of Chase Funeral Home of Huntingdon with Russ Wilkens officiating. Burial followed at the Bethel Cemetery.

Mr. Gibson was born Nov. 1, 1946, in McKenzie, to the late Gilford Washington and Blanche M. Reynolds Gibson. He was a long-time member of First Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School for several years, a former school board member and a member of the Huntingdon Quarterback Club and was instrumental in organizing girls’ softball in the early seventies. He served in the Army and was a Vietnam Era Veteran.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, James Gibson and Harold “Hoot” Gibson and a sister, Dorothy Irby.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Margie J. Gibson; two daughters, Angie (David) Turner, of Huntingdon, and Barbara (Randall) Wallace, of Lexington; a brother Gilford Junior (Cathy) Gibson, of McKenzie;  seven grandchildren, Dustin (Jennifer) Wallace, Ryan (Katie) Wallace, Logan Wallace, Brett Gibson, Lindsay (Desmond) Townes, Lincoln  (Chris) Webb, and Alex Walters, and 13 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers who served were Travis Sheimen, Barry Dillahunty, Desmond Townes, Chris Webb, and Kaden and Steven Gibson.

In lieu of flowers memorial may be directed to: The Huntingdon Quarterback Club or Huntingdon High School Girls Softball team.
