Ralph Atkinson, 65, of Yuma, passed away Monday, Jan. 11, at his home. Funeral services were held on Thursday, Jan. 14 at Reed’s Chapel in Lexington with Bobby Beecham, and David Beecham officiating. Burial followed in Jones Cemetery in Wildersville.
Mr. Atkinson was born on March 20, 1955 to the late Martin and Juanita Lewis Atkinson. He retired from Leroy Somer in Lexington and was a Baptist by faith. His favorite past time was visiting family and friends. He enjoyed picking his guitar and singing. He got his first real guitar when he was eight years old. In a few hours, playing by ear, he could pick the chorus of Tom Dooley. At eighteen, he played in bands and later formed his own band. He liked country, oldies, gospel, and a few folk songs. He was known for playing at benefits, private parties, and family get togethers.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Atkinson Sherrill; and two brothers, Rex Atkinson, and Danny Atkinson
He is survived by two daughters, Melissa (Timothy) Skelton of Potts Camp, Ms.; and Candace (Jordan) Neuenschwander of Bruceton; one brother, Thomas (Brenda) Atkinson of Lexington; two sisters, Helen Murphy of Wildersville, and Marilyn (Lynnwood) Fields of Huntingdon; four grandchildren, Madison and Sunny Skelton, and Bayleigh and Colt Robison; several nieces, nephews, cousins and buddies, Scotty Cannon and Stephen Belew.
