Man injured in Court Square accident

A man who was involved in a Jan. 19, 5:05 p.m. traffic accident on the Court Square is a patient at Vanderbilt Medical Center, but is no longer in ICU, but a step-down unit,  according to a reliable source.

Kenneth David Meggs, 57, of 935 Purdy Rd. Huntingdon, is believed to have suffered a medical emergency that may have caused him to rear end another vehicle and travel to the front of The Dixie where his vehicle stopped. Meggs is employed by the Huntingdon Housing Authority.

According to Patrolman Labe Ezell, driver Martel Undra Woodley, 36, of 311 Governor Browning St., Bruceton, and his family were traveling west on East Main St. in a 2015 maroon Dodge Diramgo that had come to a stop as it approached the Court Square. Wood vehicle was struck from behind by a 2015 white Ford F-250 Ford utility vehicle driven by Meggs.

The impact pushed Woodley’s vehicle onto the Court Square.which continued forward, then circled back hard to the left where it crashed into the side of The Dixie Performing Arts Center building, causing visible damage to the building’s exterior the interior and possibly the infrastructure. Woodley’s vehicle had major damage to the entire car of the vehicle. The truck that was owned by the Huntingdon Housing Authority was heavily damaged in the front.

All the occupants of both vehicles that also included Woodley’s finance and three children were all wearing their seatbelt. The Woodley family were all transported to Baptist Memorial Hospital - Carroll County for treatment suspected minor injuries.

This is the second time The Dixie has been damaged in a vehicle accident. In the past couple of weeks, work had started on the front to replace the the glass that had been knocked out previously.
