Gibson County woman in critical condition after near drowning incident

As of Tuesday morning, Toni Manuel, 23, of Gibson County, was in Jackson-Madison County General Hospital
in critical condition after a near drowning incident Saturday afternoon at the Carroll County 1,000 Acre Recreational
Lake. It was believed that she was from the Trenton – Humboldt area.
The Carroll County Sheriff’s Department received a call around 4 p.m. about a female that was under water in the
swimming area behind the concession stand.
Nearby swimmers managed she pull her from the water. Two nurses who happened to be at the lake, performed
CPR on her until an ambulance arrived and transported her to Baptist Hospital – Carroll County. She was later
transferred to Jackson General.
A 7 p.m. candlelight vigil type prayer service was planned for Tuesday night at the 1,000-acre lake.
