County unemployment falls over two points in November

State and county unemployment rates for December had not yet been released as of press time, but, according to figures from the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development, Carroll County’s jobless rate dropped over two percentage points from October to November of last year.

The county’s November rate was 5.6 percent, down from 7.7 percent in October.

Of the county’s available labor force of 12,632 persons, only 703 were reported as being unemployed during the month of November.

Local joblessness, however, was still up for the year from 4.1 percent in November of 2019.

Statewide unemployment was also down from 5.3 percent in October to 3.3 percent in November, as was the national rate, which fell from 6.7 to 3.5.

Lake County reported the state’s highest November rate at 8.1, while Williamson County boasted the lowest rate at 3.3.

November unemployment rates in bordering counties included: Benton, 5.8; Decatur, 6.1; Gibson, 5.4; Henry, 5.5; Madison, 5.6; Weakley, 4.7.

There were 70 new claims for unemployment benefits in Carroll County during the week ending Jan. 2 on top of 238 continued claims.

Statewide, there were 67,727 unemployment claims paid out to state residents during that same week.
