The Carroll County News-Leader of Huntingdon is the winner of eight Tennessee Press awards announced from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville in a virtual meeting Thursday afternoon.
Tennessee Press president Daniel Richardson introduced UT president Randy Boyd who congratulated the winners along with Charles Primm, with UT Communications Department, who announced the winners.
The News-Leader took third place in Best Sports Writing and in Best Feature Photo. The newspaper took six fifth place wins in the categories of Best Humor Column, Best News Photo, Best Breaking News Coverage, Best Single Feature, Local Features and Make-Up and Appearance.
Richardson is the publisher and Shirley Nanney is editor of the News-leader while Ron Park is sports editor. Contributing sports writers are Russell Bush, Jim Steele and Buddy Smothers.
The awards are generally announced at the summer convention in July, but was postponed due to the COVID 19 virus this year.
