A Benton County woman was severely injured in a midday head-on collision with a semi truck Friday on U.S. Highway 70 near Hollow Rock.
Margurite M. Tirado, 75, of Camden was airlifted from the scene by an Air Evac Lifeteam to the Regional Medical Center in Memphis.
Information regarding her condition was not available at press time Monday afternoon.
According to the accident report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Tirado was driving westbound on Highway 70 in a 2009 Ford Edge at around 12:15 p.m. when her vehicle crossed the center line and collided head-on with a Federal Express freight truck traveling eastbound just west of the Hollow Rock city limits.
Both Tirado’s vehicle and the semi truck came to rest on the north side of the highway.
The report did not state what caused Tirado to veer in front of the other vehicle.
While the entire front and driver’s side of Tirado’s SUV was demolished, there was no visible damage to the front of the semi, which had a metal impact guard over the grill.
The driver of the semi, Ronald C. French, 52, of Springville, was not injured in the crash.
Both Tirado and French were wearing their seatbelts when the accident occurred, according to the report.
