Bruceton Still Has County’s Highest City Tax Rate

Posted

Despite a recent reduction, Bruceton continues to have the highest municipal property tax rate in Carroll County.

Last Tuesday, the Bruceton Mayor and Board of Aldermen approved a new budget that lowers the town’s tax rate from $2.20 to $1.70 per $100 of assessed value. While the move brings Bruceton closer to its neighbors, it remains the highest among cities in the county.

Here’s how Bruceton compares to other Carroll County municipalities (2024 rates):

  • Bruceton – $1.70
  • Hollow Rock – $1.49
  • Huntingdon – $1.2487
  • McKenzie – $0.9884
  • McLemoresville – $0.6957
  • Trezevant – $0.6504

In addition to city taxes, residents pay special school district taxes, which vary by area. The Hollow Rock–Bruceton Special School District has the highest rate in the county at $1.3246, followed by:

  • South Carroll SSD – $1.3539
  • West Carroll SSD – $1.2207
  • McKenzie SSD – $1.1844
  • Huntingdon SSD – $1.12

All property owners in Carroll County also pay the county tax rate, which currently stands at $1.4131.

These figures reflect the 2024 rates and may change as towns and school boards complete their annual budget cycles.
