Boat, recreational storages defined in resolution

Members of the Carroll County Lake Planning Commission passed a resolution at the Dec. 15 meeting that creates a definition for both boat storage and recreational storage.

Community Planner Donny Bunton was given instructions at the last meeting in November to create wording which would allow both boat storage and recreational storage in L-2 (Lake Low/Medium Density Residential) and M-RC (Mixed Residential-Commercial) districts and definitions for each.

“It was a concern putting more than boats in storage,” he said. “ You (the commission) wanted to add recreational storage.”

One of the main differences  is the fact that in boat storage, three sides must be enclosed, and in recreational storage all four sides.

Both boat storage and recreational storage facilities must be located on lots that are at least one acre in size. Such facilities must meet a setback of at least five feet from all property lines.

A boat storage facility is a structure or group of structures divided into individual units purposed with the storage of boats and items customarily accessory to boats.

A recreational storage facility is a structure or group of structures divided into units purposed with the storage of recreational vehicles, travel trailers, and items which are customarily accessory. The storage of a recreational vehicle or travel trailer is compulsory to items which are customarily accessory to recreational vehicles and travel trailers being stored.
