Posted

The congregation spent an hour singing Hymns of Early Days during the Town of Huntingdon’s Bicentennial Sing Sunday afternoon from 2 until 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church.

First Baptist Church’s Minister of Music and Education Henry Simpson led the songs that had been requested while adding  interesting historical facts.

Some of the songs were from the 1700’s that led to old time favorites that are still sung.

The sing concluded with the most favorite, “Amazing Grace.” The second most favorite, “What A Friend,” was also sung.

Melissa Powell, co-chairperson of the Bicentennial Committee, welcomed the congregation She invited everyone to lift their voices in praise.

Vice Mayor Nina Smothers thanked First Baptist Church for offering their facility for the sing.

“I am looking forward to each month’s Bicentennial event that the committee has planned as we celebrate the Town of Huntingdon,” she said.

Her remarks were followed by prayer by pastor Bro. Jacob Harris.

At the conclusion of the program, Ike Gilbert, deacon from Clark Street Missionary Baptist Church, gave the benediction.
