Mustangs, Fillies sweep a busy week

It was a busy week for Huntingdon High School basketball as the Mustangs played four games for the week and the Fillies played three.

Both squads were perfect as the Mustangs defeated Big Sandy on-back-to back nights, winning at home on Monday (Jan. 25) 57-46 and at Big Sandy on Tuesday (Jan. 26) 74-35. The Mustangs won two more road games for the week as they defeated Bruceton 79-53 on Friday and won over Clarksburg on the road Saturday 72-35. The Mustangs evened their season record at 9-9 and improved to 6-2 in the district with the four wins.

The Fillies won at home against Big Sandy 71-18 on Jan. 25 and 59-21 on Jan. 26. They also defeated Hollow Rock-Bruceton on the road Friday 65-33 to improve to 12-7 for the season and 7-1 in district play.

On Jan. 25, Grant Bartholomew had a season high 26 points in the Mustangs 57-46 win over Big Sandy. Blake Bradley added 13, Clark 8, Hoard 4, Atkinson 3, and McCord 3. Big Sandy was led by Brandon Berry with 12, followed by Seth Green 11, Blake Sims 11, Jaylen Christopher 10, and Rogers 2.

In the second game of the week with the Red Devils, the Mustangs got off to a quick start and won easily on the road. The Mustangs had 15 different players score and were led by Bradley with 10, followed by Clark 9, Allen 9, Lewis 9, Atkinson 5, Kelley 5, Hoard 4, King 4, Gordon 4, Bartholomew 2, Flowers 2, McCord 2, Irvine 2, and Ramsey 2. Buhl led Big Sandy with 8 and Jaylen Christopher scored 7.

The Mustangs won a tough game at Bruceton on Friday 79-53 as the Mustangs outscored the Tigers 37-20 in the second half for the win. Bartholomew led the Mustangs with 18, followed by Jeremiah Irvine 15, Keyshun Hoard 12, Jeb Atkinson 11, Clark 8, Pritchard 5, Bradley 4, Kelley 2, Allen 2, McCord 1, and Lewis 1. Bruceton was led by Noah Hampton with 13, followed by Austin Craig 12, Thomas Crews 11, Haskins 7, Inman 6, Lowe 2, Vackar 1, and T.Crews 1.

The Mustangs climbed to five hundred for the season on Saturday with a 72-35 road win at Clarksburg. The Mustangs had 13 different players score in the win, including Bartholomew 10, Irvine 10, Pritchard 8, Kelley 7, Atkinson 7, McCord 6, Clark 6, Smith 5, Flowers 4, Gordon 3, Hoard 2, Hutcherson 2, and Allen 2. Scorers for Clarksburg included Spencer Webb 12, Hooker 9, Garner 4, Pendergrass 4, Gilbert 2, Rogers 2, and Cobb 2.

In the Fillies 71-18 win at home on Jan. 25 against Big Sandy, the Fillies got points from 13 different players and were led by Addison Postlethwait with 11, followed by Crossno 9, Butler 8, Rich 6, Sanders 6, Childress 5, S. Singleton 5, Fuller 5, A. Singleton 4, Williams 3, Anderson 3, and Wortham 2. Berry scored 5 and Wade 4 to lead Big Sandy.

The Fillies followed that win up with a 59-21 win over the Lady Red Devils on Jan. 26 and had 12 players score. Brooke Butler and Sydney Anderson led the way with 11 apiece, followed by Williams 6, Kee 6, S. Singleton 5, A. Singleton 5, Postlethwait 4, Rich 4, Fuller 2, Crossno 2, and Childress 1. Ashlyn Berry led Big Sandy with 16.

The Fillies finished the week with a 65-33 win over Bruceton on the road. Addison Postlethwait led the way with 11, followed by Lia Fuller 10, Anderson 9, Williams 9, Butler 8, S. Singleton 8, Kee 6, Rich 2, A. Singleton 2, and Childress 1. Bruceton was led by Malorie Clements with 16 (which included five three-pointers), followed by Burton 7, Bratton 4, Harris 3, and Binkley 3.
