The Huntingdon Mustangs fell to an uncharacteristic 0-6-1 to start the season as they lost three games this past week and tied one.
Through their first six games this season, the Mustangs had not scored more than three runs in a game until they scored five times in their final game of the week in a 5-5 tie with Union City on Saturday.
The Mustangs started the week with a 6-1 loss at Milan on Tuesday, then traveled to Union City to participate in the annual LH Ladd Tournament. The Mustangs played a doubleheader on Friday after a rainout on Thursday, losing to Gosnell, Arkansas 6-2 and Martin Westview 19-3. The Huntingdon boys finished the week with a 5-5 tie that lasted eight innings on Saturday with Union City.
In the Mustangs’ loss to Milan, Grant Bartholomew was 2-3 and drove in the only run for the Mustangs in the 6-1 loss. Cade Wood was also 2-3 and Sam Parish, Colton Bush, and Javon Pritchard had a hit apiece. Parish got the start on the mound and took the loss.
In the Mustangs 6-2 loss to Gosnell, Parish led the way offensively with a 2-3 effort at the plate. Bartholomew and Bush also collected a hit apiece. Blake Bradley started on the mound and took the loss.
The Mustangs fell apart offensively and defensively in a 19-3 loss to Westview following their loss to Gosnell. Bartholomew was 1-2 with an RBI, Bradley went 1-2 with two RBI’s and a double, Hunter Britt was 1-2 with a double, and Wood was 1-2. Pritchard started and took the loss on the mound.
In the Mustangs’ 5-5 tie with Union City, Britt started on the mound and pitched the best game of the season for the Mustangs as he went 6.2 innings and only allowed two earned runs. Bradley was 2-4 and had a double, Blane Fields went 1-3 with a double, and Parish, Wood, and Britt all had a hit.
