Lady War Eagles advance past Lady Tigers

Before snow and ice shut everything down, the West Carroll Lady War Eagles and Hollow Rock-Bruceton Lady Tigers managed to get in their first-round match of the District 11A Basketball Tournament Saturday night in Atwood.

The Lady War Eagles grabbed the win 63-39 and will advance to the semifinals – whenever the weather allows for that – and the Lady Tigers concluded their season.

West Carroll jumped out to a sizable 21-11 lead in the first quarter, spearheaded by a 14-point effort by Mia Jones. Nevaeh Davis put up eight points for Central in the first.

The Lady War Eagles kept the momentum going and outscored Central 12-7 in the second period to hold a 33-18 halftime advantage.

The West Carroll girls widened there lead by three in the third quarter and were ahead 45-27 going into the final frame.

The Lady War Eagles finished the win as they outperformed Central 18-12 in the fourth quarter.

Jones was her team’s and the game’s top scorer with 21 points, followed by Amaya Thompson with 13, Skylar Jones with 10, Erin Norman with 9, Shaylin Pruitt and Janzen Winberry with 3 each, and Kelsey Holmes and Alyssa Butler had 2 apiece.

Davis led Central with 16, followed by Malorie Clements with 9, Mykenzie Burton with 5, Sophie Bratton with 4, Laegan Binkley with 3, and Mya Harris with 2.
