Huntingdon Council deals with several matters

RECOGNIZED – Mayor Dale Kelley presents Vice Mayor Nina Smothers with a certificate of commendation for her 47 years of dedicated service with Baptist Memorial Hosptial – Carroll County as Pharmacy Director and Ancillary Services Manager.

Vice Mayor Nina Smothers was honored for her 47 years of dedicated service with Baptist Memorial Hospital – Carroll County during the March 22 Huntingdon Town Council meeting. She was presented a certificate of commendation by Mayor Dale Kelley.

She served her profession in pharmacy beginning in 1975 as Pharmacy Director and Ancillary Services Manager until recently.

She said that she was encouraged by Dr. Jerry Atkins to start in the new position at the hospital.

“We are so blessed to have this group of people at Carroll County and I am so proud of the services the hospital provides,” she said. “The people I have had the opportunity to work with and the relationships I have built in my various roles remain the greatest treasures of my career.”

She said Brianna McKinney has been hired as the director of Pharmacy in her place.

A resolution passed to submit a Community Development Block Grant application not to exceed $600,000, plus any eligible three-star bonus allowance for a community infrastructure project. The town will be responsible for any local match.

The project will assist with drainage issues at Williams Street bridge and other drainage matters from Mallard’s Restaurant to Second Ave.

Community Development Partners will provide assistance in the preparation and administration of the application. Barge Design Solutions will provide assistance in the preparation and implementation of the town’s grant application.

An ordinance passed on the first reading that provides a municipal zoning designation of B-2 (General Business) for property being annexed at 9715 Highway 22 South, adjacent to the corporate limits, which includes approximately 1.1 acres.

Three water bills were adjusted for residents during the meeting.

Mark Simpson’s $1,162.22 was adjusted to $608.11 with the final adjustment being $250.

Ruthanna Hollis’ bill of $2,192 was adjusted to $509.33 with the final adjustment being $250.

Blake Garcia’s bill for Huntingdon Motel was for $13,037.69.  The bill was adjusted to $3,733.13 with the final adjustment is $1,317.26, their normal bill, plus $200 for a total of $1,517.26 as the last adjustment.

A note on the agenda for the meeting noted that concerns over water billings and consumptions have been addressed by the Dept. of Finance and Utility Department. Errors with monthly readings affected some customer bill amounts and several customers discovered and repaired leaks during the previous month.

Council members granted the request from the Lady Jaxx softball team for the use of Edwards Park. They will play on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from March through October.

A bid will be solicited for a rooftop HVAC unit and installation at the Public Safety building.
