Cassidy no-hits Illinois team for MHS win

McKenzie’ junior pitcher Jackson Cassidy struck out eight, walked none and fired a no-hitter against Roanoke-Benson (Ill.) Friday.

The Rockets are located northeast of Peoria. 

Cassidy also singled and drove in a run to aid his own cause. Jake McDaniel singled, doubled and drove in a pair of runs. Hayden Hixon had two hits and two RBI. Collin McLearin singled and drove in two runs. Ty Anderson and Nolan Renfro each had two hits and an RBI.

•MCKENZIE 10, GIBSON COUNTY 1: The combined pitching effort of Hayden Hixon and Lane Anderson struck out 16 Gibson County hitters as the Rebels claimed an easy win last Tuesday, March 15. 

Hixon struck out 11, allowed two hits and issued two walks. Anderson struck out five in two innings of relief. 

Collin McLearin was 4-5 at the plate with a pair of doubles and three RBI. Hixon was 3-4 with an RBI. Braden Birmingham raked a double for the Rebels.

Matthew Reynolds, Avery Criswell and Aiden Webb each singled for GC.

•MARTIN-WESTVIEW 7, MCKENZIE 4: The host Chargers bolted to a 6-0 lead, but McKenzie scored two in the fourth and two in the fifth to make it close.

Rebel junior Jackson Cassidy cracked two doubles to pace the offense. Hayden Hixon,  Nolan Renfro and Braden Birmingham singled for the Rebs. 

Garner Anderson had three hits, including a double, and drove in a pair of runs. Luke Beam drove in a run as well. Brady Gardner, Cade Spaulding and Cooper Spaulding each had base hits for the Chargers.
