A Return to Raving

After a 14-year hiatus, we’re bringing it back!

If you’re a longtime reader of the Carroll County News-Leader, you may remember that I wrote a weekly opinion column that started in 2003 and ended in 2007, when I left the paper for awhile to pursue other career options.

If you’re a more recent subscriber – or you’re too young to remember back that far – or you’re a reader of one of our sister publications – then maybe I should introduce myself.

My name is Ron Park, age 50-plus-one. I’m a proud native of the Hollow Rock-Bruceton Greater Metropolitan Area, a Henry County resident for the past 20 years or so, the youngest son of Patsy Park and the late Benny “Sorghum” Park, a Central High School and Bethel University graduate, and sports editor/head staff reporter with the News-Leader.

The name of that column I wrote years ago was Ron’s Ravings, and with our publishers’ blessings (I don’t know what they were thinking), I will once again be raving and assaulting you, our beloved readers, with my twisted musings and questionable views on a weekly basis.

In fact, you’re reading the first installment (or re-installment) right now.

And I must say, after keeping my opinions mostly to myself and concentrating on just straight news reporting for the past several years, I’m feeling like I might have a few things to say about this, that, and the other thing.

So what can you expect?

Who can say?

In keeping with the original Ravings format, I reserve the right to weigh in on pretty much anything I dang well please – from politics to religion, from social issues to matters of conscience, from local happenings to world events, from economics to sports, and basically anything else that catches my attention or wanders through that long, dark tunnel between my ears.

I might be dead serious one week, and I might go for something more lighthearted or humorous the next.

Some of the things I write may even be a little tongue-in-cheek.

And I certainly hope that I don’t offend anyone’s soul too deeply – though with the sharply divided, emotionally charged state of affairs these days, I’m not holding out much hope for that.

If you strongly disagree with something I write, you’re more than welcome to send in a letter to the editor and tell me how wrong-headed and misguided I am … or you could just find it in your heart to forgive me (or dismiss me as an idiot) and move on with your life.

But, honestly, I’m not aiming to offend, and I sincerely hope that at least some of the things I have to say will resonate with our readers.

In any case, I believe this is going to be an interesting journey, and I’m looking forward to bringing you all along for the ride.
