{"id":16025,"date":"2021-09-15T14:36:37","date_gmt":"2021-09-15T14:36:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsleaderonline.com\/covid-19-illnesses-challenging-local-hospital\/"},"modified":"2021-09-15T14:36:37","modified_gmt":"2021-09-15T14:36:37","slug":"covid-19-illnesses-challenging-local-hospital","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsleaderonline.com\/covid-19-illnesses-challenging-local-hospital\/","title":{"rendered":"COVID-19 illnesses challenging local hospital"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A local surge in COVID-19 cases \u2013 mostly from the Delta Variant \u2013 is presenting a challenge to local medical providers, including the county\u2019s only hospital, Baptist Memorial Hospital-Carroll County.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to hospital CEO Susan Breeden, five of her hospital\u2019s six Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds are currently filled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She also said that the hospital has recently been averaging about eight hospitalizations due to COVID on a given day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cCOVID-19 is still very much prevalent in the community,\u201d said Breeden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As of press time Monday, there had been a total of 91 COVID-related deaths in Carroll County since the start of the pandemic with seven deaths recorded since Aug. 2 of this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There have been a total of 4,856 confirmed cases in the county, 136 of which have resulted in hospitalizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Locally, a total of 4,435 persons have had and recovered from COVID-19.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A local surge in COVID-19 cases \u2013 mostly from the Delta Variant \u2013 is presenting a challenge to local medical providers, including the county\u2019s only hospital, Baptist Memorial Hospital-Carroll County.
