Two people were charged with criminal trespassing after the garage in which they were sleeping was destroyed by fire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
McKenzie Police Officer Trey Boucher charged Paul H. Moore, 54, of Main Street, McKenzie, and Gina L. Alas, 37, of Magnolia Avenue, McKenzie, in the incident that occurred on October 19 at around 5:25 a.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Officer Boucher’s report, McKenzie police officers were dispatched to a garage fire at 164 Linden Street. The garage and four automobiles were engulfed flames when officers arrived at the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
MPD Officer Cody Coleman determined that two persons were sleeping in the garage at the time of the fire. Moore carried Alas from the burning structure, according to the report. Alas\u2019 power wheelchair was destroyed in the fire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Moore told officers he had permission from Elizabeth Heath, the renter, to stay in the garage, but Heath and property owner Jose Becerra both denied giving Moore permission to stay in the garage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Also partially damaged from fire were the two adjacent houses, both owned by Becerra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The cause of the fire is under investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
