Williams leaving early as director

Dexter Williams was set to leave his position as West Carroll’s director of schools on June 30, but, as it turns out, he will be exiting sooner than that.

According to Board of Education chairman William Robinson, Williams and school district attorney Christopher Hayden have reached an agreement in which Williams will leave the position nearly two-months early, his last day being on May 5, and the school district will pay out Williams’ contract in full through June 30.

Under his current contract, which was set to expire on June 30, Williams makes a little over $100,000 annually, so the remaining time represents somewhere in the neighborhood of $16,000 that Williams will be retaining.

The school had set a special called meeting for Monday night to address the matter of Williams’ contract, but with that matter already resolved, the meeting was cancelled.

Williams has accepted positions as head basketball coach and athletic director at Trinity Christian Academy (TCA) in Jackson.

Earlier this month, the board approved a contract to hire Preston Caldwell of Milan as the district’s new director.

The board did not set a definite starting date when Caldwell was hired, and, according to Robinson, he will now be starting on May 6.

Caldwell currently serves as principal over Lake County High School in Tiptonville.
