The Carroll County areas of McLemoresville and Buena Vista could have access to broadband by next year if TEC is successful in obtaining a $1,000,000 grant through the state Dept. of Economic and Community Development (DECD).
Carroll County Commissioners voted to establish a policy with DECD for the Broadband Ready Community Program after TEC officials Brent Fisher and Tim Loecher made a presentation before the commissioners.
The project is a 50/50 matching grant and is a $2,000,000 project. Carroll County won’t be asked to place any money in the project.
“Carroll County needs to be a Broadband Ready County so it will let us be able to apply for grants,” said Fisher.
The areas of McLemoresville and Buena Vista are the least served areas of Carroll County.
Fisher said the paperwork must be turned in by Nov. 7. This means these areas will have high-speed internet.
