UT Extension – Carroll County to offer Master Beef classes

The University of Tennessee Extension Service – Carroll County will be offering the Master Beef Course for 2022 on Saturday March 5 and Saturday March 26. The March 5 class will be held at the Exhibit Building at the Carroll County Fairgrounds. Registration will be from 9:00 am – 9:30 am.

Dr. Lew Strickland, UTIA Extension Vet will talk about reproduction and calving problems. Tori Marshall, UT Farm Manage Agent will cover beef economics, Dr. Forbes Walker, UTIA will talk about livestock feeding systems and Justin Hargrove, Benton Co. ANR Agent and Kenny Herndon, Carroll Co. ANR Agent will cover pasture weed control and Fall Arrmyworm scouting and control.

On March 26, the class will travel to Cox Farms in Holladay, Tn. A low stress handling demonstration will occur, Herd Health will be discussed with Dr. Kevin Cox, a discussion on current issues in the beef industry and a presentation on meat cuts, cooking  methods and marketing freezer beef will be part of the day. After lunch the group will tour Buckaroo Slaughterhouse. Lunch will be provided both days. Cost for the program, including lunch and materials is $125.00.
