The Hollow Rock-Bruceton Central High School Tigers finished out a tough 2022 football season Friday night with a 48-6 on-the-road region loss to the Dresden Lions.
The Lions dominated the Tigers for most of the game, leading 21-0 at the end of the first quarter, 42-0 at the half, and 48-0 at the end of a shortened third quarter with a running clock.
The Tigers’ only scoring drive started late in the third and took up most of an eight-minute fourth quarter. Central freshman Seth Thomas gave the Tigers pretty good field position with a kickoff return to the Tiger 33-yard line, then senior Preston Hollingsworth ran it up to the 45 for a first down as the third quarter ended.
In the fourth, the Tigers fought their way up to the Dresden 25-yard line, with yards added on carries and passes by Hollingsworth and carries and receptions by senior Tate Crews. With about a minute and a half left on the clock, Hollingworth targeted Crews for a scoring pass, putting six on the board for Central.
But that would be the Tigers’ last score of the game and the season as the Lions blocked the extra point kick attempt by Landon Boyd and then burned the rest of the clock by taking a knee on their last possession.
The Tigers end the season with a 1-9 overall record and a 1-5 record in regional competition with their lone win against Perry County (56-46) on Oct. 14.
The Lions (8-2, 5-1) begin their postseason bid this upcoming Friday night by hosting Eagleville.
