Tigers finish season at Houston Co.

BUDDY SMOTHERS: The teams of District 11A concluded their pre-district schedule of games Friday night and began their district schedules on December 4.

After placing third in the District 12A Tournament, the Hollow Rock-Bruceton Central High School Tigers concluded their season Saturday night with an 83-60 loss at Houston County in the first round of the Region 6A Tournament.

Central senior Caleb Haskins concluded his high school career with a big 31-point performance. Also contributing offensively for the Tigers were Tate Crews with 11 points, Preston Hollingsworth with six, Cameron Lowe with five, Malakhi Guthrie with four, and Owen Crocker with three.

Clayton Mitchell led Houston County with 20 points.

The Fighting Irish held a 27-14 lead at the end of the first quarter, but Central shaved three points off that lead in the second period as the Tigers outscored Houston Co. 11-8. But that still left Central behind 35-25 at the half.

Play was heated in the third quarter, but the Irish managed to add four points to their lead to hold the scoreboard 58-44 going into the fourth. Houston County clenched the win by outperforming Central 25-16 down the final stretch.

The Irish advanced to face the West Carroll War Eagles Tuesday night in the regional semifinals.
