Marquez Taylor, a Mr. Football candidate in 2021 and a college football prospect, signed last week to play with Austin Peay State University.
Taylor compiled nearly 3,000 yards in the last two seasons as a running back. He had nearly 1,700 yards and 33 TDs as a junior in guiding McKenzie to the state finals. Taylor was a Mr. Football finalist as a result.
Last season, he was McKenzie’s leading rusher and helped the Rebels get to the Class A state championship for the first time in school history. The Rebels defeated Clay County 34-14 in Chattanooga last December.
Taylor also is one of the Rebel basketball team’s leading scorers and helped the team reach the state quarterfinals a year ago. This year, the Rebels are 16-5 overall and ranked No. 5 in the state.
Taylor joins Camden Allis and Zach Aird (North Alabama), Hunter Harvey (Cumberland), Zay Webber and Etijah Tharpe (Bethel University) as college-bound football Rebels.
The Rebels went 15-0 last year, 29-1 over the past two seasons.
