Taco Bell is coming to Huntingdon

Although a site plan has been approved for the construction of Taco Bell in Huntingdon, no date has been given for when the moving of dirt will begin or when it might be expected to open.

The designated site is where the Jackson Hewitt tax business now stands at 210 Veterans Drive near Wal-Mart. Janice Wolfe is the owner of the land.

Public Work director Randy Crossett says he has a copy of the site plan and corresponds with Pacific Bells LLC who will be in charge of all the construction of the new Taco Bell, but has not heard when construction might start. The only noticeable thing that has happened so far is that the Jackson Hewitt sign has been taken down.

The property is 34,570 square feet in size and is zoned B-2 (General Business).  The building is to  be 2,000 square feet in size.

Taco Bell was founded by Glen Bell, an entrepreneur who first opened a hot dog stand called Bell’s Drive-In in San Bernardino, California in 1948. Glen Bell opened the first Taco Bell in 1962 in Downey, California. In 1964, the first franchisee opened, in Torrance, CA.

In 1970 Taco Bell went public with 325 restaurants. Today, Taco Bell is located all over America and in many different countries.

The Taco Bell® menu has Mexican inspired foods.from classic tacos to burritos to  epic specialties and combos.

Huntingdon council members Tim Tucker and Vice Mayor Nina Smothers say they are pleased that Taco Bell has chosen Huntingdon as a site for one of their restaurants.

“I hear lots of people in our community who are very excited about another new place to eat coming to town soon,” said Tucker.

Smothers says the community is elated that the Mexican style restaurant is coming.

“I think our community is very excited about the diversity and menu offering of Taco Bell,” she said. “My grandchildren will want to be the first in line when it opens.”

The closest Taco Bell restaurants to Huntingdon are in Paris, Milan and Camden.

An attempt to reach company officials was unsuccessful on Monday.
