Summer vacation is over. Schools gets underway in Carroll County next week.
Four of the five special school districts that include Huntingdon, McKenzie West Carroll, and Hollow Rock – Bruceton will go a half day on Aug. 3 from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. and on Aug. 4 for the first full day from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. The Carroll County Technical Center will also start on Aug. 3.
However, South Carroll Special School District was approved by Carroll County Superintendent John McAdams to start a day earlier than the other schools.
“We were ready to roll and wanted to start a day early,” said South Carroll Special School District Director of Schools Lex Suite. “We appreciate Superintendent McAdams’ cooperation. We will get out of school a day earlier than the other schools.”
The School Calendar for makeup days after six days missed for inclement weather shows the following days may be used for makeup days: Feb. 21, and March 28 – April 1.
The fall semester will end Dec. 17 and the end to the spring semester will be May 19 when school will close for the summer.
There are eight holidays that entail 27 days.
The holidays include: Labor Day, Sept. 6; Fall Break, Oct. 11-15; Thanksgiving, Nov. 24-26; Christmas, Dec. 20 – 31; Dr.Martin Luther King Jr. Day; Jan. 17; Feb. 21, President’s Day; March 28-April 1, Spring Break; and April 15, Good Friday.
There have been numerous teacher changes in the school systems.

McKenzie Special School District

New faculty members in the McKenzie Special School District include: Rachel Edlin, a UTM graduate, who will be teaching 1st grade. Hope Powell, a graduate of Freed-Hardeman, will also teach 1st grade. Ashley Sellers, a UTM graduate will teach 2nd grade. Morgan Klinzing, a graduate of UTM will teach in our CDC program. Jill Scott, a Bethel University graduate, will serve as a speech language pathologist.
In the middle school, Morgan Bromley, a Bethel University graduate, will teach 5th grade language arts. Nick Cobb, a UTM graduate, will teach 6th grade math. Luke Anderson, a UTM graduate, will teach 7th grade science. Tyler Holt, a Bethel University graduate will teach 8th grade math.
At the high school, Dylan Benson, a Bethel University graduate will teach physical science.
There will be opportunities for students and parents to visit the campuses prior to the school year. On Thursday July 29, McKenzie Elementary School is hosting Meet the Teacher from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. McKenzie Middle School is hosting 5th grade orientation for parents and students at 4:00 p.m. on July 22. The high school will have schedule pick up on July 22 from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. 9th grade orientation will be Thursday, July 29 at 6:30 p.m.
Hollow Rock – Bruceton Special School District

Hollow Rock – Bruceton Special School District has a new director of schools, Dr. Myles Hebrard, along with a new District Office Administrative Assistant, Courtney Oatsvall.
New Central cafeteria staff members are Lauren Guinn, Jenna Spivey and Angela Matheny.

West Carroll Special School District
West Carroll Special School District has a new director of schools, Preston Caldwell.
He was contacted concerning the new hirees in the school system. However, he declined to give the information, stating that if this newspaper wanted them, they would have to send someone to the board office where a list would be provided. He said he and his staff were very busy and would not have time to make a list and e-mail them. He still lacks some positions that have to be filled, he said.
He complained about an article that appeared in this newspaper that he said put a negative slant on the school district, therefore he declined to send the school district’s new employees.
