Rick and Brenda Lankford thankful to be alive

Rick and Brenda Lankford, who reside at 1720 Hilliard Rd., a few miles off the Browning Highway, called the tornado that destroyed their three bedroom two bath brick residence devastating.

But they were still able to look on the positive side of the situation and be thankful since they escaped injury and death.

The couple had just gone to bed and noticed that it was raining.

“It began roaring and when I looked out the window the roof went off,” said Brenda. “We just can’t wrap our minds around all this.”

She called a grandson in McKenzie who rushed to the scene.

A portion of the house was built in 1953 with remodeling taking place in 1967 and 2007.

Friends, neighbors and relatives were already cleaning up the debris Tuesday that was scattered everywhere and salvaging what they could.

Although devastation was all around, undisturbed were a church figurine and other what-not pieces on top of a hutch in one of the roofless rooms.

The couple already had an offer of a place to live. They moved into a furnished house on the Browning Highway that was owned by Tippitt Farms.

Rick’s sister, Elizabeth Mason, lives next door. She had some damage to a back bedroom.
