Retha Mae King

1937-2020

Mrs. Retha Mae King, 82, of Huntingdon, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 8, at her home.

Funeral services were conducted on Sunday, Jan. 12, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Chase Funeral Home. Interment followed in Carroll Memorial Gardens.  Pastor Bill N. Williams and Pastor Lonnie Parker officiated the service.

Pallbearers who served were James Milam, Dawarry Yarbrough, Donald Gordon, Randell Yarbrough, Dwight Williams, and Ray Johnson.  Honorary pallbearers were Mack King, Robert Jamison, Anthony Jamison, J. G. Willis, Preston Yarbrough, Marcus Yarbrough, and      Darnell Jamison.

Mrs. King was born Nov. 8, 1937 in Clarksburg, to the late Jimmy and Ella (Staten) Williams.  Mrs. King worked at the Publix Shirt Factory for several years, until retiring.  She took great joy and pride in hosting and entertaining friends and family events.  Retha displayed humility and willingness to help others and those in need.  She was also passionate about cooking and baking.  Among those who loved her, she was famous for her fried pies and assorted cakes.  She was a member of Smyrna Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a faithful member who served as a Sunday School Teacher, President and Vice-President of the Usher Board, Treasurer, Fifth Sunday School Union Secretary, a leader of the food committee, and other devoted roles in the church until her declining health.  She was also preceded in death by her sisters and brothers-in-law; Corrine (James) Johnson and Shirley (Hulon) Willis. 

She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Charlie King; her daughter, Melissa (Phillip) Johnson; two granddaughters, Caneshia Johnson, Rhiannon Johnson; and a sister, Onetia Thomas.  She also leaves a host of sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and friends that will continue to cherish her memories.  Mrs. Retha will truly be missed by those she has touched during her lifetime.
