Relay Cancer Auction raises almost $15,000

McKenzian Sherry Washburn, who coordinates the Carroll County Relay for Life Cancer Bake Auction, each year was elated with this year’s results. By the time April 15 had rolled around, the five day auction had almost reached the $15,000 mark through the volunteer efforts of a lot of volunteers, according to Sherry. Actually, Sherry believes the auction will surpass the $15,000 amount since some late money is expected.
“We are so pleased with the results,” she said. “Lots of people contributed to its success.”
She noted that people made lots of good things to eat every day.
There were cookies, cakes, pies, candy and lots of delicious items in between to cure one’s sweet tooth.
Cakes seem to be the favorite.
McKenzian Thelma Delaney’s strawberry cake was bid off at $425 by Casey Drewry Realty of McKenzie. It received the top bid for the week.
The auction was broadcast over WHDM radio station with David Jackson serving as host.
Auctioneers who served during the week included Chance Steen on Monday, Terry Howell on Tuesday, Tim McBride and Craig Lunn on Wednesday, Kenny McBride on Thursday and Jason Allison on Friday.
