Randy Kelley hired as SRO at Central

The Hollow Rock-Bruceton Special School District has recently traded a longtime school board member for a school resource officer (SRO).

Randy Kelley has been hired as the district’s SRO through the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department.

But since he cannot both work in the school district and serve on the Board of Education for that district, Kelley tendered his letter of resignation from the board during Monday night’s meeting.

Kelley has served on the board continuously for nearly 22 years.

“It has been a wonderful experience,” wrote Kelley in his letter, which was read aloud by Director of Schools David Duncan. “I am grateful to have been a part of this board for so many years.”

On behalf of the board, Chairman Brad Hurley thanked Kelley for his years of service and presented him with a plaque from the board.

Kelley began his career in law enforcement 24 years ago at the Sheriff’s Department and has served as an officer with the Bruceton and Huntingdon Police Departments.

He also served for two years as an SRO in the Benton County School System and is already fully certified for school resource work.

Kelley started the new job on September 5, and he says he is really enjoying it.

“I’m loving the kids, and I’m loving the school system,” said Kelley.

“Officer Kelley is doing a great job, and we’re certainly keeping him busy,” said Central High School Principal Joe Norval. “He gives us an extra layer of safety and security we really like having.”
