The Huntingdon High School Mustangs saw their first live action of the football preseason on Friday as they participated in a four-way scrimmage with Lexington, Dyersburg, and Columbia.

The scrimmage took place on the main field at Lexington High School and on the LHS practice field as all four teams took turns rotating from field to field playing each other.

The Mustangs held their own against the bigger schools, and they will scrimmage again this upcoming Friday, Aug. 5 at Paul Ward Stadium against Covington.

The starting time for that scrimmage had not yet been set as of press time, and the temperature that day could be a deciding factor.

A week after the scrimmage with Covington, the Mustangs will play against McNairy County in the state’s oldest jamboree on Friday, Aug. 12 in Lexington.

Huntingdon opens the regular season on Aug. 19 against McKenzie at Paul Ward Stadium.

The Mustangs, who have between 50 and 55 players on the roster this year, including about 10 returning starters, continue early morning practices in full gear this week.
