Merel Douglas Smith
1934 – 2023

Merel Douglas Smith, 88, of Clarksburg, passed away Saturday, January 28, at his home. Funeral services were held on Monday, January 30, at the Clarksburg Church of Christ with Chase Sanders officiating. Burial followed in Blair Cemetery.

Mr. Smith was born November 16, 1934 in Westport, Tennessee, to the late Harbert Gardiner and Pauline (Tucker) Smith. He retired from Consolidated Aluminum and was a member of Clarksburg Church of Christ. Other than his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Billy Harbert Smith and Phillip Smith.

 He is survived by his wife of sixty- six years, Marjorie Nell Smith, two sons, Kevin Smith (Melinda) of Holladay, Kent Smith (Susan) of Yuma, six sisters, Madlyn Bolen of Wildersville, Ella Ray Coleman of McKenzie, Gail Akins of McKenzie, Ellen Wooley (Randall) of Springville, Judy Parish of Chattanooga, and Jan Cozart (Ricky) of Gleason. He also leaves six grandchildren, Lindsey Smith of Huntingdon, Anna James of Nashville, Jenna Smith of Dyersburg, Tyson Weller of Henning, Trevor Weller of Camden, Colten Smith of Yuma, and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers who served were Paul Aylor, Bennie Roberts, John Roberts, Jason Wooley, Trevor Smith, and Colten Smith.
