Arson

•Firefighters with the McKenzie Fire Department responded to 15 Reynolds Street on December 2 where they found a previously-burned duplex again on fire.

The department responded weeks ago to a significant fire at the duplex, which is now under rehabilitation. McKenzie Police Officer Trey Boucher filed a report indicating some unknown person set fire to a tarp hanging from the roof and alongside the house. A neighbor saw and reported the fire. The amount of new damage is unknown.

Theft

•Thomas Taylor reported the theft of his father’s 2014 Buick LaCrosse vehicle taken from 168 Booker Street on December 4.

Officers investigated and found the vehicle on Walnut Circle, not far from it was taken. It was towed by D&D Wrecker Service because the key was missing. The report indicates a slender black man showed up at 168 Booker later in the day. He returned the key and items taken during the earlier incident. The report did not indicate any arrests in the matter.

Meth, Public Intoxication

•Bobby Gene Smithey, 62, of Forrest Avenue, McKenzie, was charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver/resale, possession of marijuana, felony drug paraphernalia and public intoxication on December 5.

According to a report by Officer Dalton Raspberry, he saw Smithey sitting on a bench at the Splash Pad on South Stonewall around 5:33 p.m. and noticed he was smoking from a glass pipe. When asked, Smithey reportedly admitted to smoking meth. A search of his clothes and backpack revealed digital scales, a crystal-like substance, baggies of green-leafy material, a bottle of butane fuel, multiple needles and spoons, a mirror, foil, and cut straws. He also had possession of a 2009 class ring with the name “Caitlyn” on it, a debit card, a room key to McKenzie Inn, and keys to a padlock of a storage area on the former Sonic Drive-In property. He was advised the owner of the property did not want him on the property. Smithey was using an electrical plug at the Splash Pad to charge his phone, which was taken as evidence.

Public Intoxication

•Dossie Lynn Wright, 40, of McKenzie Inn, Highland Drive, McKenzie, was charged with public intoxication on December 5.

Officer Jeff Winberry observed Wright underneath the wooden bridge near the Splash Pad and then witnessed him get on the bridge, walk toward the Splash Pad while flailing his arms, and then turn on the lights to make them flash at the Splash Pad, which is closed for the season. According to the report, Wright admitted he had drunk an intoxicant and smoked meth in the last hour. He was arrested and transported to Carroll County Jail.

Criminal Trespassing

•April D. Shell, 39, of Gleason was charged with criminal trespassing on December 5.

Officer Jeremiah Brooks responded to Dollar General after a store employee reported Shell was banned from the property. MPD dispatch center confirmed the order to ban Shell. She was cited into General Sessions Court.
