McKenzie man’s death still under investigation

The death of McKenzian Reginald Cozart, 42, is still under investigation by the McKenzie Police Department and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

Investigators still have not determined if Coart’s death was murder, suicide or if someone was acting in self defense, according to McKenzie Assistant Police Chief Ricky Sawyers.

Cozart was found unresponsive on the floor of an apartment at 344 Elm Street after officers responded to a disturbance complaint there on Nov. 9 (Saturday) at 2:30 a.m., according to a report released by the McKenzie Police Department. When an ambulance arrived within minutes, it was confirmed that he was deceased.

Multiple witnesses to the disturbance were interviewed by the T.B.I. and McKenzie Police Department.

The deceased was transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Nashville for an autopsy.

His funeral was held Nov. 16 at Brummitt – McKenzie Funeral Home.
