The West Carroll Lady War Eagles grabbed a decisive 69-32 win over the hosting Clarksburg Lady Rockets Friday night, boosting their season record to 6-8 overall and 1-1 in district play following a 60-34 non-district loss to Peabody Thursday night and a 62-53 district loss to Huntingdon on Tuesday, Jan. 5.
The Lady Rockets also suffered losses to McKenzie (73-25) and Wayne County (70-42) last week to put their overall record at 0-11.
The originally scheduled nightcap between the Rockets and the War Eagles was cancelled as the entire Rockets team is currently in quarantine due to COVID.
Before going into quarantine, the Rockets (0-9, 0-1) suffered a 63-26 loss to McKenzie on Jan. 5 and a 62-36 loss to Wayne County on Jan. 4. The War Eagles (5-8, 1-0) fell to Peabody 82-74 Thursday night but topped Huntingdon 62-55 on Jan. 5 in their first district game of the season.
In Friday night’s girls game, the Lady War Eagles jumped out to a 14-6 lead by the end of the first quarter and then outscored Clarksburg 23-10 in the second quarter to hold a 37-16 advantage at the half. West Carroll’s girls went on to outperform the Lady Rockets 15-9 in the third quarter and 17-7 in the fourth.
Mia Jones, Amaya Thompson, and Janzen Winberry all scored in double digits for the Lady War Eagles with 17, 13, and 10 points, respectively. Also contributing points for West Carroll were Kaylee Butler (9), Erin Norman (8), Alyssa Butler (7), Kelsey Holmes (3), and Sydney Bosley (2).
Makiya Abdallah spearheaded Clarksburg’s offensive effort with 15 points, followed by Grace Bartholomew with 6, Maddie Petterson and Melegha Abdallah with 3 apiece, Chloe Crum and Kyleigh Scott and 2 each, and Sam Segraves with 1.
