McKenzie had to battle a formidable Peabody team as well as a case if nerves in its Class A state quarterfinal game Wednesday afternoon in Murfreesboro.
But the Lady Rebels turned a solid defensive performance that forced 25 Peabody turnovers and plunged the Lady Tide into foul trouble.
McKenzie didn’t shoot particularly well from the perimeter, as its 1-13 clip suggests, but converted when it got close to the rim. The Lady Rebs turned a six-point halftime lead into a solid double digit advantage in the third frame.
Savannah Davis led McKenzie with 21 points and eight boards. MHS improved to 24-7 and faces Van Buren County 2:45 p.m. Wednesday at MTSU in the state semifinals.
