Independent candidates qualify in state races

Two independent candidates have submitted petitions as candidates for state offices in the upcoming November
elections.
Dresden Mayor Jeffery T. Washburn has put in his bid as an independent candidate for the District 76 Tennessee
House of Representatives seat, and Yahweh Yahweh, a Humboldt resident and county commissioner for Gibson
County, is running as an independent for the District 24 State Senate position.
Washburn submitted his petition in Weakley County, and Yahweh filed petition in Gibson County, both before
the August 2 deadline. Washburn and Yahweh were not included in the list of candidates published in last week’s
News-Leader.
Others who have qualified for the District 76 spot include Tandy Darby, Dennis J. Doster, David Hawks, John
McMahan, and Keith Priestley, all running as Republicans.
Additional District 24 qualifiers include Casey L. Hood and John D. Stevens, both Republicans.
