Huntingdon sweeps Clarksburg on hardwood

The Huntingdon High School basketball teams completed their regular season home schedule Tuesday, Feb. 2 with a pair of wins over Clarksburg. The Fillies defeated the Lady Rockets 71-36 and the Mustangs won over the Rockets 82-47 to complete a season sweep for both Huntingdon teams.

It was the fifth win in a row for the Mustangs and it set up a three-way tie atop District 11-A. With the win, the Fillies improved to 8-1 in the district and set up the opportunity to tie for the title with a win at McKenzie on Friday.

In the opening game, the Fillies had one of their best offensive quarters of the season as they scored 28 points in the opening frame and the held the Lady Rockets to ten. Addison Postlethwait who led all scorers with 13 for the game, scored 11 of those points in the opening quarter. Sophie Singleton, a sophomore forward for the Fillies, scored seven points in the opening frame. 

The Fillies led at the half 41-14 and outscored the Lady Rockets 30-22 in the second half for the win. The Fillies forced 28 turnovers and made nine three-pointers for the game. The Fillies, however, struggled from the free throw line as they only made 11-23 from the charity stripe. 

Postlethwait’s 13 points led the Fillies, who had ten different players score. Brooklyn Williams added 12, Brooke Butler 10, Sophie Singleton 9, Crossno 7, Rich 5, Fuller 4, Kee 4, Childress 3, and Belew 3. Clarksburg was led by Makiya Abdallah with 9, followed by Maleigha Abdallah 5, Blount 5, Scott 5, Derryberry 4, Segraves 3, Bailey 2, and Crum 2.

In the nightcap, the Mustangs scored a season high 82 points and had 13 different players score, made 10 three-pointers for the game, and forced 29 Clarksburg turnovers in a pull away win for the Mustangs and their fifth win in a row. 

The Mustangs got off to a fast start in the first half as they scored 22 points in the opening quarter and 27 in the second frame to lead 49-22 at the half. 

The Mustangs, who played Clarksburg three days prior to this meeting, were led in the scoring column by junior Jeb Atkinson with 17, including five three-pointers. Grant Bartholomew and D’Allen McCord added 12 apiece, Keyshun Hoard 10, Clark 5, Lewis 5, Irvine 4, Allen 4, Gordon 4, Pritchard 3, Kelley 3, Ramsey 2, and Smith 1. 

Spencer Webb led the Rockets with 17, followed by Hooker 9, Rogers 5, Cobb 5, Garner 4, Gilbert 4, Clark 2, and Pendergrass 1.
