Huntingdon School Board purchases land in front
of primary school

Huntingdon Special School District Board of Education members have made a second land purchase.
This time it is in front of the Primary School at 173 and 175 Jones Street with the purchase price being $42,500.
Last month at the Jan. 18 meeting property behind the middle school was bought at a cost of $50,000.
“It’s a good idea to purchase property around the schools,” said director of schools Dr. Jonathan Kee.
Kee gave updates on construction that is going on within the district.
The change in lighting to LED at the high school is taking place with the middle school to be next.
“This will be funded through utility savings which means it will self fund itself,” he said.
The primary school roof is 95 percent completed . The middle school is next in line for a new roof. Next month Kee hopes construction will start on the the cafeteria and six classrooms at the primary school. At the high school there is a problem with moisture coming through the wall, he noted.
A resolution was passed to adopt Carroll Co. Hazard Mitigation Plan. The math text book for K-12 students was adopted.
Activity Teachers Appreciation Day will be acknowledged on March 2.
Overnight field trips were recognized for about 50 middle school and high school students to attend West Tennessee All-West competition on March 8 – 10 at the University of Memphis. The high school band will attend All-State competition April 19-22 at Opry Mills. HOSA students will attend state competition April 3 – 6 in Knoxville.
The resignation of high school special education teacher Dana Paris was recognized for the 23/24 school year.
Kee announced that high school math teacher Teresa Cloar would be retiring at the close of this school year. “She is a phenominal teacher,” he said.
